How do we clean weathered decks with no coatings?
For old decks that have had no coating and are just tired and gray, we take care to thoroughly clean your it using a detergent we Deck Wash Revolution which removes the old dead wood fibers that are seen as gray wood to the naked eye. This process also will remove foot traffic dirt that has been wore in as well as algae and mold.
How do we clean decks with sealers or stain coatings?
Every coating on a deck will be either latex or oil based. Latex coatings are very difficult to remove so depending on how many layers of latex have been applied to a deck will determine the amount of labor spent stripping the old layers off. Sometimes mechanical sanders are involved in removing these stubborn coatings. The same can not be said about removing oil based products as they are more forgiving in the color changing process when stripping.Usually alight application followed by gentle pressure will remove most stains. We follow up every deck stripping with a brightening agent to make the magic begin that makes the deck being to see its younger years. After this process we give great detail to properly sanding the entire deck to a smooth like finish. Every deck restoration project gets a Deep Penetrating coat of oil based stain from Armstrong-Clark Deck Stains.
What if my deck is new?
We have a solution for that also. Even new wood needs to be protected from the elements of weather such as UV rays from the sun, snow, ice and rain. A deck washing is in order followed by a pH balancer to remove mill glaze from woods such as cedar to the paraffin wax that is applied at the lumber yard on all new wood in order to add protection for the decking material.
